We’re pleased to have supported Faithful+Gould, Bowmer+Kirkland and Broxtowe Borough Council on the first phase of a £50m scheme to re-develop and transform Beeston town centre.
A successful phase one
Faithful+Gould acted as project managers and cost consultants on the project. They provided a range of services, including Project Management, Cost Control, CDM, Building Surveying, Project Feasibility, Quantity Surveying and Client Advisor.
Main contractor Bowmer+Kirkland delivered the first phase of the development which included construction of a full outer shell for the cinema complex and retail elements of the project. This was valued at around £8m and completed in January 2021.
With help from Contract Manager, fluent communication between all parties was made simple, allowing Faithful+Gould, the client and the contractor to communicate throughout the project.
This ensured everything stayed on track during what was a difficult year for delivering such a project.
Rob Malik, Project Manager at Faithful+Gould, said: “I’m delighted to see this phase of the wider £50m Beeston town centre development reach completion. It has been a challenging project for everyone involved, with much of the work having been delivered throughout a 2020 in which construction was not operating at full capacity.”
How did Sypro help?
There was a total of 11 users who had access to our Contract Manager software throughout the duration of the outer shell’s construction.
Contract Manager created a central hub that enabled instant communication between the client and full delivery team from start to finish.
Rob continued: “Using Sypro’s Contract Manager really helped to keep things on track. The connectivity it offers, and ease of use allowed us to maintain a strong relationship with the client and contractor throughout the project’s delivery and ensured that all parties were kept up to date with the latest information whether they were on site or working from home.”
“The software has also placed management of the NEC4 contract as a number one priority and has taken away the need to use email for communication, which from my previous experience, can often lead to its own problems. I’m already looking forward to using Contract Manager on my next project.”
Bowmer+Kirkland’s Contracts Manager, Mike Atkinson, said: “Bowmer and Kirkland is extremely proud to have delivered the first phase shell contract and look forward to seeing the fit out completed. The Sypro Contract Management tool was new to us all but very simple to use and very effective. It really did bring the benefits of the NEC form of contract to the fore, creating an administrative environment in which the collaborative mind set of all of the parties involved was able to thrive.”
Simon Hunt, Chief Executive Officer at Sypro, said: “We’re pleased to have supported Faithful+Gould, Bowmer+Kirkland and Broxtowe Borough Council on the first step in an exciting new development for the town of Beeston. You only have to look at the likes of Microsoft Teams and Zoom to see the benefits that software has brought to people and businesses within the last year, and our Contract Manager product is no different. The flexibility, connectivity and simplicity of our software has made it a key part of a project toolkit on a number of construction projects over the last year and will continue to be in the future.”
A major boost for the town centre
The council’s vision is to provide a welcoming town centre that attracts new investment and create a high-quality environment where people will want to live, work, shop and visit.
Centered on the flagship cinema complex, The Square will be a key enabler in improving the areas nighttime economy.
The scheme will also include a wide range of national retailers, local shops, cinema and restaurants providing a vibrant and attractive range of places for people to be entertained, eat drink and shop.
Councillor Steve Carr, deputy leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, said: “We want Beeston to be a destination town and this cinema complex will play a big role in its future prosperity. Not only will it attract more people to the town and create jobs, but it will give people who live in Beeston something to be proud of too.”
First class entertainment and connectivity
At its heart, the Square includes an eight-screen cinema complex which will be operated and controlled by The ARC.
With its links to the proposed new transport exchange, ‘The Square’ redevelopment will play a key role in re-vitalising the town centre.
Development work nears completion
Phase two of the development is currently underway and due for completion in summer 2021.
This involves the full fit out of a new cinema which is being undertaken by specialist building and fit-out contractor, G F Holdings.
The cinema complex is set to open on 28th May, ready for the much-anticipated opening of the UK’s hospitality sector.
“Using Sypro’s Contract Manager really helped to keep things on track. The connectivity it offers, and ease of use allowed us to maintain a strong relationship with the client and contractor throughout the project’s delivery and ensured that all parties were kept up to date with the latest information whether they were on site or working from home.”
